Division Systems

The set-up of the new division Systems is the logical consequence of increasing customer requirements, experience, know-how and our new solution possibilities for Embedding-Technologies (Technologies for integrating active and passive components into a PCB).

An comprehensive solution-portfolio and excellent production skills enable SCHWEIZER to increase the added value and thus to improve the performance of systems. Customers benefit from system solutions with regards to tailored form factors, improved electrical- and thermal performance, the possibility of active IP protection and increased reliability. All these advantages are targeted at further reducing the system’s cost.

Particularly in the automotive industry, for applications in the field of electric motors, there is an increasing demand for such solutions. The same applies to high power applications, which are increasingly in demand in the target market Industry. Target applications primarily include converters and inverters as well as drive controls for electric motors. To complete its product range, SCHWEIZER is also working with manufacturers of semiconductors and electric motors as well as with a number of technical institutes.

 

Small All-Rounders on narrow grounds

Systems for many of today’s and tomorrow’s applications are subject to an advancing process of miniaturisation. There is an ever growing necessity to accommodate additional functionalities on decreasing available space. In the case of electric motors, for example, it is evident that the PCB respectively the control is no longer – as was before - placed at the side of the actuator but rather built into the motor. Beyond, there are first applications where the surface of a PCB and the used semiconductors is nearly similar in size. Thus, the next and consistent step is the embedding of active and passive components into the PCB.

 

Manifold Fields of Application

Applications benefiting from such a process of embedding can be found, for example, in the areas of Electronic Control Units (ECU), motor drives, DC/DC and AC/DC converters, consumer und mobile applications and semiconductor packaging.

 

Necessary Changes of the Business Model using the Embedding Approach

In our division Schweizer Systems we are addressing the challenges of the business model embedding. Today’s prevalent business model, whereby customers buy PCBs and components separately from each other, will change due to the embedding approach. The hitherto sequential approach will develop towards a triangulated relation between suppliers of PCBS – semiconductors – passive components for components to be integrated. In order to achieve this, purchasing of services and products, quality standards and changeovers, forms and format of deliveries have to be settled for this new model.

For an early implementation of this new approach and to complete our product offering we are collaborating with partners in the industry and technical institutes in order to offer our customers more than PCBs via Schweizer Systems.
